The SUPERIOR 100 Foods to Eat Before You Die List
By Kendra Holliday | January 18, 2020
I saw this stupid list titled 100 Foods You Should Eat Before You Die on a food blog, and was NOT impressed. Cocktails? Frito pie? Spam? Really? I’m sorry, but I don’t think you need to eat Spam before you die.
So, my omnivorous partner and I (me = a sushitarian, which means I’m vegetarian but eat sushi once a month, or more, depending on whether you buy me some or not) came up with a better version of the list, which is below. I’m no foodie, but I’m a hardcore worldly sensualist, so there you have it. I know this post is not sex-related, but it’s going to be linked to another post that is.

Dammit I forgot creme brulee, blueberries, chilled cherry soup, and… what else?
Kendra Holliday 2012-04-09 12:26:13
I’ve tried 92 or more of these things. Figures, since it’s my list. Have not tried jerk chicken, haggis, head cheese, kangaroo…

Haggis was way better than I thought it would be. Texture like meatloaf, with a very delicate, spiced flavor.

Love the list. Not tried near as many as you. More goodness to be had then.

I’ve eaten at least 75% of that list. I didn’t make a tally. There were a couple of fruits I haven’t had. I would add cumquats. I would also recommend carrying around a bag of them when they’re in season and making people try them so you can see their facial expressions when those tart little wonders pop in their mouths!
When I was a little girl there was a woman down the street who was in her ninties and had trouble lifting her arms to comb her own hair. I loved her and would go over to her house and wait for her to tell stories. She once showed me how to make pasta from scratch. It makes me tear up thinking about tasting that again.

65! Also raw asparagus fresh out of the garden and tomatoes fresh off the vine would make my list too. Although they must be eaten outside – it doesn’t count if you go inside first. 🙂

I have tried 73/100 on your list. And I want to try more. How bout a list of 100 sexy or afrodisiac foods… Some of these would work for that list.

I’m going to work on a 100 Sex Acts to Try Before You Die list, but I want community feedback on it!

I’ve tried….60/100. Which is rather shockingly low if you ask me. I’m surprised by myself. I almost tried rabbit, but it wasn’t ready to eat when I got to the party. You’re mention of Caprese (Mozzarella cheese+Tomato and Basil) makes me really wish for summer time haha.

I’ve had 90 of these – including the crickets!

I think I’m at 63 or so. I like your list! I would add homemade, fresh-baked bread. Also, sushitarian – that’s awesome.

I’ve had only 45 out of 100! The dairy allergy and vegetarian inclination is limiting me! But I love nearly all of those things I have tried! Fussy but not picky 😀
Kendra Holliday 2012-04-13 08:58:47
OK I went back and replaced three gross meat dishes with three awesome vegetarian dishes. They are way better than shock value carcasses.

I ahve tried 63 and you have given me some great ideas for the future
Mark 2013-04-23 22:55:58
I’ve had 94/100. Don’t think I’ll ever pass a total of 98. I have no desire to eat crickets or durian. 😛

You have my interest. Let’s dine! Let’s indulge!

I am proud to be at 83! ! ! I had a quite a varied diet back before I went vegan. My parents were gourmets. I was born a redneck and I grew into adulthood surrounded by loving hippie culture, which gave me immense respect for vegan food and vegans/vegetarians. I would love to do a list of 100 vegan foods people need to try before they hit the bucket. People, myself included, don’t realize how much flavor and excitement they are missing as they walk right past certain foods on their way to the foods they are used to. Keep in mind every vegetable you may see in the produce area, has a master chef behind it with a recipe that would blow your MIND! we just have to reach out to these yummy foods and explore. Life is all about exploring…..otherwise we would always be like other people……and that isn’t original or human nature.

I have tried 61. Add bear, persimmon, squid.
Kendra Holliday 2020-01-20 11:04:06
ooh those are good suggestions!
AlanK 2020-01-23 13:33:16
Calamari IS squid. Small squid. Large squid are sepia. But it’s all the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea beastie.
