Shaking
Filed under: Deserving - April 18, 2008 @ 12:31 pmPre-dawn, and I had just woken from an intensely sexy dream. I was lying there basking in the pleasure, feeling it in my core, when the candles on my dresser started tinkling mysteriously. They shuddered harder and harder, and then everything started shaking. My first thought was that holy shit, my dream was coming to GET ME, and my next thought was “earthquake.”
I woke sleeping Belle next to me and she sat bolt upright. Church bells peeled in the distance. As the world vibrated, the spring fevered birds kept singing outside our window.
Belle uttered, “Cooool,” and as the shaking subsided, she collapsed on top of me and held me, reigning in my pounding heart. I inhaled her night sweat. The candles tinkled a little longer after it stopped shaking, sounding like little soldiers marching off. We drifted back to sleep.
…
When I got up this morning I saw that only ONE of my Pez dispensers had fallen. It was Miss Piggy who took the plunge.

What about you? Did you feel it?

So far in my lifetime, we’ve only had one earth quake in rochester new york (my hometown). I just woke up to my bed (which has wheels on the bottom) gently rocking back and forth. I thought, “oh that’s cool” and went back to sleep without any thought as to WHY my bed was moving.
It was probably one of the strangest moments in my life.

You know, after that happened I was trying to think of ways to alert my wife and I during our sleep in case of another quake. I suppose dozens of empty Pez dispensers on a shelf would do the trick!

Valentine, you’re from Rochester? Wow, small world. I went to school there.
And Beautiful, you get more awesome every day, with your Pez dispenser collection…I am very slowly growing my collection.
No quakes here, though we had a tremor a few years back, scared the shit out of me.

I’m from Orange County, California. Once we had a quake during class when I was in middle school. just to show how desensitized we all are…the teacher didn’t even line us up and go outside like we were supposed to. her reasoning, which she gave us when we asked if we going to, (trying to get out of class, not because we were scared) was “oh please, that wasnt even a 4 pointer, sit down and finish your problems”.
Another time there was a big one and I was in some parking lot, and you could see the ground rolling and breaking, so we all went out into the parking lot and pretended to surf the concrete…we were such idiots.

for some wierd reason M and I woke up at the same time, she made a comment about the birds going nuts outside and then it hit. We just giggled and watched the world tilt, nothing else we could really do…

I’m really sad to be in Northern Ohio. This might have been my only opportunity to experience an earthquake in my entire life! I’m glad no one was hurt.
