Spicy Baby Food

My favorite food is Ethiopian. I like telling people that, because it’s fun to see how many respond with, “I didn’t know Ethiopia HAD food, ha ha.” (For the record, more people than not say that.)
I don’t have a clue about the meat dishes, but you can get vegan platters heaped with red lentils, yellow lentils, greens, and cabbage or green beans with potatoes and carrots, and all are spiced fabulously and best of all, you eat with your hands. Actually you tear off pieces of a flat, spongy sour bread and scoop the food up with it. LOVE it.
I try to get my fix when I’m traveling. DC and Chicago have plenty of places, and Kansas City has my favorite restaurant, Addis Ababa. St. Louis is sorely lacking in Ethiopian restaurants. There’s a Jamaican restaurant on Olive that rents itself out on Sunday nights for Ethiopian, and then there’s the Red Sea on Delmar. It can be hit or miss, and omigod it’s not very clean and smells like a strip club in there. I hate mixing my sex and food. ![]()

I had a conversation with a student today about an Ethiopian restaurant here in town. This is a huge coincidence, but here is the email that she sent me about two hours ago:
the location: grand, just south of wyoming on the east side of the street
recommendation: vegetable #1 if you are a vegetarian, ah, but no you’re not. i think there was a dish with lamb that my friend liked, but being the vegetarian that i am, i didn’t listen too closely to the name of it. you should call me when you go because i use any and all pretext to go there. also, don’t move within a 3 block radius of the place because you might go bankrupt. a telephone number would be helpful–314-374-6780.
